Calla Lilies although having lilies in their name are not really lilies and are not part of the Liliales order or Liliaceae as one would think. Also known as Arum Lily, Miniature Calla Lily (The colored variety), Trumpet Lily or Pig Lily they are a very colorful flowers with a one of a kind look. They are perennials usually with white flowers but come in a variety of colors, a bright yellowish color at the spadix, dark green leaves and thick strong stems. Calla Lilies can grow to be as tall as 3 feet under the right conditions. They make excellent house plants that can be easily grown from a bulb. You can plant them any time between February and June in 3-4 inches of soil in a garden or container. They usually bloom eight weeks after planting.
