Michigan's state flower is the apple blossom. More usefully, Michigan is one of the largest floriculture states in the country, a major commercial grower of bedding plants, potted flowers and cut material, centered on the west of the state.
That gives Michigan florists unusually good access to locally grown product, particularly potted plants and seasonal material. The season runs from spring bulbs through peonies in June to dahlias and chrysanthemums in autumn. Winters are long and hard, so December through March is imported and priced accordingly.
